Makeup Artist Experience Wanted

    Hi guys,

I recently finished an 8 week makeup artist course with LA Makeup Academy in Dublin specialising in makeup for weddings and photography and last year did an introduction course with Zoe Clark.

My problem is I would love to get more experience in either or both of these fields but being in full time employment as a graphic designer (and not able to give up my job :() I'm not sure how to go about it. I have been asked to do some weddings for friends of mine later in the year and would love to do more but really need some more experience before I take that step.

My only option really is to get some counter work (which I would love) but Sat & Sun are the only available days I could work which would mean working 7 days a week (not what I really wanted to do) :(. Ideally I would maybe like to shadow an artist and get some hands on experience that way and learn other artists techniques etc.

Would anyone have any suggestions as to how I would go about this or know any artists who would be willing to help me out?

    Thanks in advance :)

A friend of mine who is a Make Up Artist gained experience through working with photographers starting out, on a "for prints" basis - ie, there was no payment but each person gets something out of it, ie, the photographer gets their model made up for the shot, and you get pics for your portfolio. Why not check on the photography forum?

That's sounds great, thanks, I'll do that.

I really want to work with another artist though, so I can learn more as well as getting to work with new faces and different skin etc but I'll deffo check it out, thanks! :)

At some of those shoots my friend used to go to, there were different photographers and make up artists too.. and also as time passesyou'll be working on different models and getting used to the different skin types etc.

This group regularly does the sort of thing I mentioned, in the Dublin area.

Also, why not do free makeovers for your friends, and their mothers/aunties? I'm sure practice and trying things out helps too, and people are always delighted to get it done. You can take pics of the results and track your progres..

You should set up a page on http://www.modelmayhem.com
It's a site for photographers, hairdressers, models, MUAs, stylists etc and there's a big Irish network on there.
Upload a few pics from your portfolio and start off doing time for prints, this way you'll gain experience + gain photographs for your portfolio.

I model + I'm an amateur photographer so I'll keep you in mind for future shoots!
