Anyone see the 2 hour thing the other night? I was expecting more highlight clips and hype but instead it was mostly Monty talking. That said, he came off better than usual to be fair.

He seems to have a seriously good grasp of what not to do in terms of captaincy, openly saying how he won't be as hands-on as Seve, and will aim to be much more inspiring in his opening speech than Faldo was. He's going for Langer-esque diplomacy, along with the passion to have his guys feeling "1-up" after the opening ceremony.

He referenced the importance of "comfort" among pairings about 50 times.

I enjoyed the interview, and I think we will be better equipped than last time out, all be it on home ground. I think he has a better understanding of the Ryder cup than Faldo did, it would be hard not to, and seems to be more diligent in his opinions and thoughts. I think it will be the closest contest to date this year with two evenly matched teams.

Saw about 30 minutes of it but he said all the right things for me. He did state few times when I was watching it that every player will play on the first day. That was the major downfall of our 1999 defeat that some players only played the singles. So I am glad Monty will give everybody a crack on day one.

Seems to have already picked the Molinaris, Rory and McDowell!! I thought the interview was a tad long ... there's only so much of Monty I can take. He certainly threw a (well-deserved) dig in faldo's direction saying that after his speech at the opening ceremony Europe were already one down and implying strongly that Faldo had lost the players' respect after it. In fairness, he could go on stage, grin fart and walk off ... and it would still be a better speech than Faldo's!
