For all you enthusiasts of the magnificent mythical game we're hosting a €30 freezeout tournament at 9pm on Thursday 14th Jan. We hope to get 16 runners and if we do the club will round up the prize pool to €500.

There promises to be plenty of dead money (I'm playing) and cash action afterwards.

Monkeybonkers - mythical is basically a form of rummy. Usually played with four players and two decks. The objective is to turn your ten card hand into three sets (cards of the same rank but different suits) and runs (straight flushes). Mythical gets its name because to aid you you can use one mythical card (an "imaginary" wildcard).

I hadn't come across the game before coming to Dublin but if you have played Gin or Kalooki before you'll take to it quickly.

Well done to all who participated in The First Voodoo Mythical Championship.
With 16 players paid up the event was a great success.
Pre-Tournament favourite Joe O'Neill was a no show tonight as he exited in the first round.

The structure was set with four groups of four players played round one to 100 points with the top two from each group going into round two.
The remaining 2 groups played to 150 points with the top 2 from each proceeding to the final four.

The battle for places was fierce with the top four being paid and the winner claiming the top money spot, the trophy and the bragging rights as the first Voodoo Mythical Champion.

When the dust settled the top four players, Patricia Stephens, Daire Walsh, Julianne Gillen and John McManamley played to 200 points.

With the action going non-stop Patricia was first to be eliminated in 4th place for €50. Daire was next out in 3rd for €75, leaving Julianne, a complete mythical novice, and John McManamley, who practically wrote the book on the game, to battle it out for the trophy and the €250 top prize.

In the end experience paid off and John took the honours winning the first Voodoo Mythical Tournament. Well played sir.

Due to the great success of this game we will host a second mythical event scheduled for Thursday the 18th of February.
We expect numbers to grow as all that played thoroughly enjoyed the night.
