    Hi,

I believe i have a letter at home calling me up for jury duty but have been in Oz for last 14 months. What should i do with the letter:

Send it back unopened, with return to sender written on it???
Open it and just ignore it?
Or write to them telling them i am abroad??

The thing is i dunno how i can prove that i have been abroad for that long, i suppose ozzie bank statements could help!

    Any ideas?????

Honesty is the best approach. I would imagine that you will have to at least write the court office that organises the juries and promptly inform them you will not be attending as you have emigrated/working abroad and or you could ask them to pay for your air fares.

They wont pay your air fare so thats that unless your a fast swimmer.

He should have removed himself from the electoral register.

What you seem to be saying is that you got home and there was a letter there waiting for you i.e. the time for jury service is well past.

You can be prosecuted for not turning up...I believe the penalty is a max fine of €63 odd euro. There isn't a court in the land which would impose it in your circumstances i.e. proof of being abroad when the thing arrived and not coming home until the relevant time passed.

    Don't worry about it.
