Season for Pigeon?

Hi everyone, i hope i find you all in good spirit. I’m a hunting newbie, well...... when i say newbie, i have had guns for the last 3 years and, i have shot a few targets and clays and, i’ve even gone out once in a blue moon and brought home an odd rabbit and pigeon. However, just recently i’ve re-discovered my hunting instinct in a big way. It seems like i just can’t wait to get home, get my gear and hit the fields.
I have been keeping an eye on the shooting forum for a while and the insight and tips you guys give are fantastic, thank you so much!
I do have permission to shoot on local land but i’m not part of any Game shooting club. Now i know that i can’t shoot anything that belongs to a club, like Pheasant. All i shoot is rabbit and Pigeon, but i’ve seen in some books that there is a season for pigeon?
Also, Maybe you guys could let me know what else i can shoot? I have a Ruger 10/22, Mosberg 9200 semi-auto 12g and little H&R .410 Topper.
Anyway.. enough about me. The reason i’ve posted on this thread is that i thought it might be an idea for someone to post a kinda ”idiots guide” for the seasons for Game shooting in Ireland. ie....
    Pheasant Nov 1st - Jan 31st.
    Goose September 1st – Jan 31st.
Also maybe there are some creatures that can be hunted “Controlled” all year round?
Thanks again guys for all the help. I’m looking forward to doing a bit and posting up how i’ve done on the photo’s thread.

    Humble Gunner :D.

Did the permission come with a caveat that you couldn't shoot game?

No. Just a verbal request not to shoot Pheasant, hare or Fox.

I can understand a gun club not wanting you to shoot game but not wanting you to shoot foxes? I thought they'd be glad of the control:confused:

Heres a handy website with seasons on it.

Gun clubs like to shoot foxes themselves on sundays, like driven fox shooting, its what we do in our club anyway.

Yea i know that, but i thought they would appreciate the vermin control. They dont mind it around me anyway. I suppose the driven shoots around here dont pull as much members as it would in your club or something

Thanks guys, you've both been very helpful.

It was the Landowner that did'nt want me to shoot Fox, Hare or Pheasant. The Game shooting Club seemed very Clanish and would'nt tell me what i could or could'nt shoot??.

Anyhoo. Thanks again, I'd better get out and get some Pigeon before the end of season ;).

pigeon season dosnt have to end on jan 31 as they can be shot at other times of year as part of crop protection on the request of the landowner

other times of year as part of crop protection on the request of the landowner

mmmm:rolleyes: So is there any particular protocol for asking permission? or do you just ask landowners do they need any help with their varmint problem?

luckly enough i have permission to shoot over crops belonging to a mate he has over 500 acres and is only to gald of a bit of help with controling the pigeon problem. I have a few permissions that were just got by walking up to the front door and asking the farmer never being refused most farmers are gald of a bit of crop protection as long as you have respect for their land and their rules it aint a problem
