Thinking of ripping some of my dvd's/bluray's to a HDD to paly on a WD media player. Can anyone tell me if there is any limit to a movie file size that can be stored or played from a HDD, and what would be the best format for the HDD

    Thanks

FAT32 has a file size limit of 4GB so you'll need to format your HDD as NTFS.

h.264 seems to be the codec or choice for HD video. Most HD downloads are mkv (Matroska) which is h.264 video with some audio encoded too. HD satellite channels also use h.264.

Strictly speaking MKV is just another container type (albeit a free open standard), and can contain mutiple video, audio and subtitle streams, not just confined to h264 video.

    Cheers
