    Bizarre breakdown service requests
    (UKPA) – 9 hours ago

Providing clothes for a nudist and removing a spider from a car dashboard are just some of the unusual calls made by motorists to breakdown services in the last 12 months.

Britannia Rescue revealed it had to attend a driver who had been a victim of theft while at a nudist camp.
His belongings had been taken and he had to be furnished with replacement keys and clothes.

Britannia was also called out to remove a spider from a woman driver's dashboard, while another driver wanted her rescuer to siphon from her tank the £1 worth of diesel she mistakenly put in instead of unleaded petrol.

In another case, a driver said her keys were not working and she could not unlock her vehicle parked outside her home.
As the breakdown team began drilling out the car locks, a neighbour came out of his house and asked why they were working on his car.
It transpired that the customer had forgotten she had parked four cars away down the street, and had told the team to work on the wrong car. This was despite the engineer asking the customer if she was sure that the vehicle was definitely hers.

Britannia also released details of a survey of 2,078 drivers which showed that 70% could not perform the basic tasks needed to maintain their vehicles.
As many as 42% were unable to change a tyre, 17% were unsure how to check their tyre tread and 5% would struggle to open their car bonnet in an emergency.

This lack of knowledge had led to 20% of drivers calling out a breakdown service due to a flat tyre or needing professional help with a flat battery, and 5% needing help after locking their keys inside the car.
