A nice day out on the buses

I went for a spin today with some of the lads from the MVPSI on KR9 and KC48.

The picked my up in Kilcoole and from there we headed for Bray where we parked at the DART station for a while. A couple more joined us here and off we headed for Shankill. From there we moved on to Blackrock DART station.

THen we headed into town with our first stop on D'Olier Street before moving up to O'Connell Street. From here we headed out to Howth to the National Transport Museum only to find it was closed due to the weather! So after a couple more photos at the castle we drove over to the harbor and parked up. Time for us to refuel — which we did in Beshoffs!

From Howth we headed back into town stopping off at Connolly Station. From here it was up the quays, around Trinity Collage, onto Stephen's Green and out through Donnybrook on to Bray. Then it was back to Kilcoole for the KR and KC.

It was interesting to see the looks we got today with the old buses, particularly the KR as they never ran on the routes we were on today. It had Donnybrook scrolls fitted which made it all the more confusing

    Great photos, cheers.

Those buses look and seem totally fine and serviceable. Besides emissions maybe, is there any other reason why they couldn't be used to serve the public today?

TBH not really! If you take the KR — this class ended up doing a lot of school work. Now if you look closely at this bus it is designed in a way that makes it well suited for this kind of operation. The one problem being "seat belts"!

However, it is relatively small for the number it can carry compared to the large coaches that are being employed for school work around the country! These coaches take up a much larger foot print on the narrow roads, have larger engines with higher emissions and are a struggle for small kids to board!

Having traveled on KR9 today I have to say I am amazed how well it handles on all sorts or roads. While looking utilitarian it could do a far better job at some services than many "contemporary" buses on the road today!
