There is a switch for turning on and off the traction control try that first.

Any mechanic should be able to diagnose the problems.

The lads in MKW just off the kingswood exit are very good at diagnosing the electronic stuff.

It could be a faulty brake light switch. I't not uncommon on VAG cars.

I thought the epc light was engine management on vw group cars:confused:

EPC is engine management according to my manual

EPC is Electronic Power Control not engine management.
Is the traction control light on constantly or is it just coming on intermittently - if you're driving in the current weather conditions the light is going to come on if you start to skid to show that it's kicking in. This a sign that it's working properly.
The brake light switch is a very common fault and is a cheap fix.

Is there a separate light for the EML then?

replace brake light bulbs!!!! very common on Ibiza.
Bulbs brake the circuit on the brake light switch brings on epc and the brake light switch cannot complete the circuit. hence the ecu light.

It could be anyone of a number of things,Generally the ESP or anti skid light comes on to signify that the car is in/or was in limp mode i.e the ECU will limit the power to avoid doing any further damage.

    Where are you based?

The switch under the pedal often causes this issue. Other things such as MAF or a TB issue can cause it, but as others have said, its typically the brake light switch. Its cheap so start there.

Guys, I also have the EPC light up on the dash of my 02 Polo and the brake lights won't turn off even when the engine is off. Is this some kind of wiring fault or something more serious.

I think it could be related to the service interval needing to be reset as when i first put the key in the ignition the service interval shows up as 800.

    Common problem on VAG cars.

I had the same problem on my toledo. A 7 euro switch and 20 minutes of my time had the EPC light gone.

Although, it does sound like one of your bulbs has just simply blown causing an EPC error. Switch over the bulb and take it for a short drive see does the EPC light go out.

Can you chaeck the brake light switch? It might have just popped out of place.
