Hi all, will be buying an Impreza RX soon and want a nice little purrr out of her, any suggestions on what to do without losing power from her? Don't want something that can be heard 2 miles away!!! De-cat, straight through, cat back, have a gyst of what these are but what about legality and NCT etc

Also don't want something that looks stupid and tacky, don't wanna stretch too far from the original exhasut size.

Also anybody have experience with these?

    http://www.souhan.ie/

Or is the exhaust the way to go? All help appreciated :D

HKS do a 'silent Hi power' exhaust that should be sensible. Make sure that it will not break the soon to be introduced NCT noise limits.

Try ringing these guys and asking about your options for a quiet exhaust.

As far as i know they resell bluflame 3" exhausts and decat silencers which can bring the noise down.

She purrs like a kitten when you're cruising. Then the minute you open up it almost gives ya an orgasm ;)! Not an annoying noise either! I could listen to it all day. :D

    Hey Bonito...
I've got a NUR-Spec on my car with both catalytic converters removed, which is what's called a full decat.
It gives an increase in power and IMO it looks and sounds great but it may be too loud for your tastes.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm talking down to you, just sharing what little that I know.
The cats are built into sections of the exhaust.
To decat, the piece with the converter is removed and replaced with an
    unobstructed straight through piece.

I'd imagine you'd have trouble passing the NCT while the car is fully decatted.
People sometimes keep the cats and have them refitted for the NCT test.
AFAIK the Scooby has 3 cats.
I'm sure my mate removed one of the cats and left the other 2 on and was able to get it though the NCT like that.

Also, when you decat you increase the airflow through the exhaust.
This in turn increases the boost pressure generated by the turbos.
If you don't limit the max boost pressure by using a restrictor ring or an airflow controller then you can blow your turbos or damage your engine.
