    Hi... Going anon for this!

    I'm 27, male,

I previously worked in accounting, then worked in customer service for 2 years and travelled for just under a year. I decided to return to accounting. I transferred from the customer service job to an accounting role in the same company and will qualify soon.

I've been in the job 10 months and I'm at the bottom of the heap. Technically there are 4 of us under one manager but in reality there's a pecking order: me, bozo 1, bozo 2, asst manager and manager. The pecking order isn't going to change because the bozos on the team are paid very well and their jobs are stable.

I do my own work but have to listen to snide comments from 2 of my co-workers who imply I have an easy job, or I that I'm prone to making mistakes, and if I do make a small mistake I never hear the end of it. They're very condescending and ultimately it's just to make themselves feel important. (Their jobs seem very repetitive and involve mainly compiling pivot tables from system generated reports.) Whenever we're coming up to a busy period they start getting ready to point the finger so if anything goes wrong they can blame me, including cc'ing the manager on anything they ask me to do. When I go back tomorrow we'll be doing the year end procedures but for the entire month of December I listened to them saying "that better have cleared by year end" "it will be your fault if this isn't done on day 1" etc

I asked my manager to get me trained on other tasks (to flesh out my cv a little). My manager suggested alternating responsibilities but I don't see how this will work, because they will just blame me for anything that goes wrong the following month, while I know they would leave my rec's in complete sh**e and say "but it's YOUR job"

My job isn't badly paid, and it is fairly stable. But I think they're looking down on me as the trainee who transferred from customer service. They're newly qualified and only have a few months experience more than me! I just think I will get more respect by finding a new job and going in at a higher level as newly qualified.

But am I sabotaging things for myself? I've only been in this job a year in March, and it's the first accounting job I had in almost 3 years. I don't know if it's just a low self-esteem issue or if I will actually be better off finding a new job.

Has anyone here got any experience in being the general dogsbody and how did they deal with this situation?

    Hi OP

I do know how you feel.

I work in accounts too and I'm part qualified and have great work experience but was out of work for a few months last year and then 'lucky' to get a job last Sept. But i was shocked in my first week when they had me load folders into boxes to go into storage!! I was disgusted but I had to suck it up as I was lucky just to have the job. Its only a contract so I'll be looking big time from now on. I hate my job though just like you but you have to stick things out at the moment until you get something else.

It sounds like you're working with major jerks who are very insecure to say all that crap to you. You have to realise how small they must be to behave this way and you're better than them. I'd say have a look around for work in the meantime cos you never know.

But you have to learn to ignore your co-workers. You won't be working with them forever and then you need never see them again....sweet !!

I know exactly how u feel. I have a co worker who goes out of her way to demean me. She copies the manager in too. Very annoying and even though i know it's her problem not mine it really gets my goat sometimes. To the point I spoke to my manager in my end of yr review about it. She told me maybe I should speak to her one on one but I have no intention of doing that.

I'd be interested to read the answers u receive on this one myself. But for the moment know that it happens in every job / can happen in every job. Just keep ur head down and do ur work and do speak to your manager when u can about it. my only advice is to not retaliate then u can't be accused of sinking to their level also. otherwise ur complaints won't be justified. hope that makes sense. stick in there
