Well lads i was out this evening for a couple of hours with the springer and managed to drop a nice lump of a cock pheasant near a beech wood when the dog brought him back to me i noticed that he hadnt the slightest sign of a spur on either of his legs,i have reared a few pheasants before and shot loads but never seen one like this fella:confused:
Just wondering have any of you seen this before?

He's probably a very young bird and hasn't grown any yet. I came accross a lot of young clutches back in October. I think it was due to the bad summer. Was he a small bird?

Sorry for the delay in a reply lads!
The bird in question has since been eaten and im still alive so its all good!:)
He wasnt a small bird by any means he was a fully grown cock with about a 37" tail-i wouldnt fire at a small cock pheasant.Thats why i thought it was so unusual that he hadnt any spurs at all-did anyone else ever see this before?

Was there no trace of spurs at all?, are you sure it wasn't a hen?, I've seen young cocks with no spurs but that's it..... I await a backlash on that last statement.

There was TINY and i mean tiny little marks on his legs where his spurs should have been but in a long spur competition id say they would have measured 1/2mm at best.I know i should have taken pic's i probably wont see another like him for a long time:(
And no it was'nt a hen unless hens are a striking red colour and crow like hell when a springer flushes it:P
