Inside of windscreen wet

Right I'm driving a 99 ford focus and the inside of my windscreen gets wet quite often, mainly since the start of winter, in the morning its common to spend 10-15 minutes using the heater to evaporate the water as I dont always have a cloth to hand, and lately I've been greeted by a layer of ice on the inside.

As you can imagine this is slightly annoying, so does anyone know why this is happening and more importantly can I do something to stop it happening until the weather improves?

Sounds like you might have a leak?

    If you do, repair it,

Then use a dehumidifier in your car for a few hours, this should get rid of most of the moisture in your car, you would always have a little bit,

My C4 is like that recently too, there's a frost on the inside and outside of the glass. It's very prone to fogging up at the best of times though, I just figured it's a side effect of such a large windscreen.

Argos have a few dehumidifiers check here. Lidl/Aldi sell them too on occasion. Or get some silica gel sachets from packing and leave them around the car, great for absorbing moisture.

Maybe the pollen filter is shagged? If its damp it will send water into the car when your fan is on,happened on my mondeo a few years ago.

Hmm, if there's a leak, wouldn't water come in when it rained? havent noticed any major dampness or anything but then again it might be worth getting the windscreen checked/replaced.

I was also considering the de-humidifier to clear it up, just hope I can solve the root cause as well.

@carchaeologist: Nice Idea with the pollen filter, I assume It's under the bonnet, I'll check it out.

    Cheers guys.

Damp carpets will cause a wet screen,if they are dry id definatly try the pollen filter, not sure where it is on the focus, but the mondeo one was under the panel by the wipers.
Let us know the out come

Its in the same place on the focus too (passenger side panel under wiper). There are 2 screws holding down the panel and adhesive on the back of it. You will need the whole kit from ford to do it right or you'll be back a square 1.

Some cars just seem to suffer terrible condensation woes when it gets cold.

"Rain-X" anti-fog liquid which you can get in places like Woodies, Halford's etc. They make an excellent water-repellent for outside too.

    Probably just condensation
Hot air from heater meets cold windscreen will cause condensation. If the windscreen is wet on the inside overnight it is bound to freeze over with temps the way they are.I often have condensation dropping from sunroof.

I'd check your pollen filter first, it sounds like you could have an old one that is long past its sell by date.

Make sure your heater dial is set to bring in fresh air from outside instead of recirculating cabin air.
Recirculated air is warmer and holds more moisture which will condense on cold surfaces.

I'm going to give the pollen filter a check if I can, it does seem like the most likely suspect, and the air is definitely set to come from outside. I'll have to give it a look tomorrow but I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for, any tips as to common signs of damage or wear?

High humidity & freezing weather, nowt else IMHO.

Even a tiny bit of moisture in there is enough to fog the screen.

Might be a leak, might be just humidity, depends on the severity.

I'd check pollen filter, that the aircon is draining if fitted, and door seals.

Can anyone recommend a method of dehumidifying without getting the actual appliance? There are various packs on Ebay but not sure which is best or whether they work.

I have the same problem in my Audi A4. Its really annoying. I have yet to locate where the pollen filter is on it?
