    Hello All,

I have been toying with the idea of getting laser hair removal done but to be honest I don't know all that much about it. I looked into it a few years ago but it never amounted to anything....... Seems expensive. Was thinking of getting it done in the North (for convenience as I am there regularly anyway) or I know theres Therapy on Wicklow & Molesworth Street who do it also.

Has anyone or know anyone who has gotten it done? What should I be looking out for etc?

Many thanks in advance for any help!

I don't know much about it personally but a friend of mine got her upper lip done about two years ago, maybe slightly more. She was thrilled with it at the time, I can't remember how much it cost though.

Only problem is that she does have some regrowth now and will probably have to have a full course again which isn't ideal!

Saw a thread somewhere on Therapy, very bad reviews from what I remember and a lot of people no results from it and others got severe burns

I'm a beautician but I'm not a laser therapist however I do have a reasonable bit of knowledge about it so I'll share..

You need dark hair for it to be in any way successful, tinting the hair makes no different
It will make no difference whatsoever to light/fair hair
You need to shave before the treatment
Most people need approx 6 treatments for a complete course, some may need 2 courses...it depends on how thick your hair is, how dark it is, if it's coarse and the area being treated
    It is permanent
It is painful but the pain only lasts a few seconds while the laser beam is on your skin
The treatment itself involves a beam of light "laser" directly onto the skin, this beam destroys the hair follicle by heat.

    hope this helps

Hi, I was the same as you and was toying with the idea of laser hair removal for months and didn't know where to go. I was told about The Dundrum Clinic on boards here... http://www.knowyourlaserfacts.com/ and found them really good. I
had my first session with them in Nov and have my next one in a few weeks and although I've only had one session I've seen a difference already. It's only working out at 100euro a session with 6 sessions and it wasn't painful at all (Waxing is worse!!!!). You can make an appointment for a free consultation and they'll tell you all you need to know and whether you're a good candidate or not.

Anyway, read the link above before you go anywhere as there are many places that will advertise Hair 'REDUCTION' rather than 'REMOVAL' which is a completely different thing.

    Hope this helps :)

Hi, just wondering how you have got on in Dundrum with the rest of your sessons?

Hey, sorry for the late reply! I'm a year into my sessions now and just about finished. The reason it took longer is because when I went back for the second session my bikini line hadn't grown back enough to justify another treatment so she just did the underarm and so when I went back for session 3 it was just my bikini line and not my underarm. So on some sessions I just had one of them done rather than both area's which was great because it meant I only paid for the area treated each time which spread out the cost. Some times it was 6, 8 or even 10 weeks left in between sessions because my hair reacted so well to the treatment. Now all i have is very fine air on my underarm growing back and very little on my bikini area. So although I do still have some hair, not sure how many more sessions I'll have but it's been worth it for me so far and I might just go for the legs next :)

PS: sorry for the first post that may have popped up in your email, I was logged in under my boyfriends name, this is me now :)

I am an expert in the laser area, and the best advice I can give you is to check out the laser system being used in the clinic you are thinking of attending. Laser Hair removal is fantastic! It is quick, has become much less expensive and has also become much less painful than the earlier lasers. Generally a course of 6 to 8 treatments is required to damage all the hair germ cells that reproduce hair, and the results are relatively permanent. However, it is always possible to grow some more hair at times of hormonal fluctuations such as pregnancy or menopause, so keep in mind an occasional laser treatment may be required to maintain your lovely hair free results! Diode Lasers are accepted medically as the Gold Standard of Laser Systems for Hair Removal. There are many brands of Diode Lasers but the 'Soprano' is the most pain free of them all. If the hair is not dark in colour, another system may be a better choice, as lasers need some colour in the hair in order to target it! Get a thorough consultation prior to commencing any laser treatment!

friend from work had it done a few years back on her legs, bikini, underarm and lip - she said none of the hair grew back except for the lip as it's hormonal but its still not what it was before.

She said that some place when you pay for a course up front they will keep going til the hair is gone others you need to pay for another course of treatment (can't remember which place she said but do think she got it done in Dundrum and was chuffed with the results)

do you have to stay out of the sun or anything like that after getting it done? wouldn't mind getting it done myself - my underarms are quiet sensitive and hurts to shave but hate waiting between waxes (feel like a bloke yuck!)

anyone heard of any bad reactions to it? gonna price it now! :)

I have a consultation next week on this. Really hope it works.

    Again, any experiences welcome! :)

Does anyone know how long you have to wait between sessions? Or can they be close together?

I'd love to get a full leg, underarm and bikini permanent defuzzing! ;) I like the sound of Urbana in Dublin, they seem to come recommended, they have a €495 underarm&bikini offer but legs are obviously a much bigger area - any ideas of prices? I'll ring them during the week if not

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 claretheoc

got the bikini line and underarm package for €423. i've had 1session so far and can already see the difference, next session is this friday. i only had to wait 4 weeks in between becuase my hair growth is pretty fast! have to say the staff in there are lovely, michelle is my therapist and she is so nice. i got it for the above price because therapie were doing a deal of 495 for both areas and urbana give a 10 or 15% discount (cant remember which) of any written quote plus another discount if you pay in full on the day. hope this is of some help!!!:)

Just saw they have this deal on living social again today
    http://livingsocial.com/deals/42514-six-laser-hair-removal-sessions-on-two-areas?msdc_id=68&ref=Deal051311_68_281email

And am wondering what people who have used FAB previously think of them? Would you recommend them?
I am just finished my course of 6 for underarm and bikini with Urbana and they went really well. Underarm almost perfect and just a small amount of work on bikini so thinking that for €79 could be worth finishing it off with FAB.

    What would people think?

I tihnk it's €40 a session afterwards with Urbana, which makes it fairly pricey when you compare it to the deal!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,731 ✭✭✭uli84

not a bad offer, wish they included lower leg at a higher price :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭Dublin Mum

Ordered the FAB deal today too. Anyone used them before? There seems to be a massive price saving alright, hope it's not a case of getting what you pay for :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 kittyboodublin

I have a friend who got a city-deal (6 sessions of bikini and underarm) in FAB before Christmas and has not been able to get an appointment since her 1st session in January. She said her 1st session went fine but they were fully booked for her second session and she said even when she gave up ringing for a second appointment and went in personally she found the place overcrowded and was told it would be at least another 6 weeks until she could have an appointment. She has gave up on her treatments with fab and is now trying to get a refund as they cannot fit in her treatments and she has only had 1 session in 5 months!!

    Hope this helps xxxx

I know of one or two people who have tried laser hair removal and said it was the best thing they ever did and wished they had done it sooner. One of them went to the Premier Laser Clinic and said they were really good as they use true lasers instead of the IPL which I believe is more effective and precise.

Sounds a bit like spam to me!!! And by the way, this is an Irish site.

    Annoying!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 aroberts10

erm . . this is not spam! I will keep my recommendations to myself in furture then that's not a problem.

As for an irish site, there may be people, like me, who have family in Ireland or people who used to live in Ireland so still visit irish sites . . .

Anyway we shal leave it at that then and say no more on the matter.

just finished the last of my 6 sessions in Therapie today and I have to say I am NOT impressed!
I went for the full face offer and I can see absolutley no difference in upper lip at all, a smalldifference in chin but now I have hair on the sides of my face where I never had before.
I do understand that results are variable to say the least but it really is the attitude of the staff that ticked me right off, To say the girl was abrupt is putting it mildly!! I have had 3 different "therapists" for the 6 sessions and only one girl was nice and friendly (she was new and havent seen her there since:rolleyes:)
I will continue with my laser quest but im definatly going elsewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 golgi

Im mid way through laser treatment with Therapie and I have to say I find it fantastic.

The staff are not the 'friendliest' and Ive had to wait up to 20 mins before being seen before regardless of having an appointment.

I find it extremely painful, bikini (brazilian) worst than underarms , that said its very effective. I have very pale skin and dark hair so i think thats the ideal situation. After 3 sessions I have very little regrowth at all and what there is is very light and fine so overall happy.

Im not sure what the difference between IPL and laser is but a friend of mine getting IPL has experienced NO pain whatsoever whereas Im in agony with laser.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 521 ✭✭✭Isolt

I find laser agony too and I got two little burns on my first session. They faded quickly though but am nervous about my next session. I never thought it'd hurt so much!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,628 ✭✭✭Truley

I'm started using a citydeal voucher for 6 sessions in Clearskin, Tallaght on my Bikini Line. I had one very painful session three weeks ago and there has been virtually no regrowth, not even a stubble. I have very pale skin and coarse, black hair. Hopefully this is a good sign!

Quick question, I'm travelling up from the country for this so I was hoping I could be a bit flexible with how I space out the treatments but the beautician said I have to come back every six weeks, no longer. Is it really a big deal if I leave it a bit longer? I'm not waxing or shaving the area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 golgi

Id imagine you can leave it as long as you like between sessions but it has to be a minimum of 6 weeks (3 weeks for hair to fall out and 3 weeks for re growth) . If you were on antibiotics for any reason they more than likely won't do the treatment and can postpone it for that reason and it still works or in the case of someone getting pregnant treatment gets postponed so I doubt it matters.

I had 6 weeks between session 1 and 2 but then had 9 weeks between 2 and 3 as I was sick. This wasn't a problem at all, the therapist told me the longer length would have no effect on overall outcome.

Maybe the salon just wants a bigger throughput to increase stats e.t.c so you should suit yourself or ask for a scientific explanation as to why it makes a difference what length you leave it.

Im getting laser so can only speak about that not IPL.

Do you not request your therapist when you book? Ive had 7 treatments on face and neck and always request the same person (the Australian girl). I think she's ver good. I'm pale and have stubborn dark hairs. Laser is not permanent though, I still dont know how they can all get away with calling it that.

Tbh I think I'll be going back every three to four months. Nearly three months since my last session and slight regrowth so want to keep on top of it.

But it's a million times better than what it was. Well worth the money and pain for me!

Just so you know, I found the lip the hardest area to take to the laser. It's only now I've really noticed results on that area.

As a bloke hopefully ye can steer me in the right direction.
Have been getting waxing in Stephen Thomas for a long while getting Back C& S (down south!) done and have found it if nothing else very hygienic as I’m very hairy and always liekd to keep tidy.

My wife has a Brazilian Laser done she has suggested that rather than getting waxed every some may week that maybe Laser hair removal would be a better long term solution including cost..
Problem is that I haven’t been able to locate anywhere that will do laser down there on men, no prob for the ladies.
Anyway, anybody (male/female) able to steer me in the as to who might be able to who does male laser treatment in the intimate areas?. A buddy in work (and apparently his wife) got it done in the UK before return home to work here but that’s not an option.

I WENT TO GET THAT TREATMENT DONE ON MY LOWER STOMACH- IT WAS DONE BY AN INEXPERIENCED PERSON- AND I GOT 35 CIRCULARS BURNS ON MY STOMACH- I AM STILL IN PAIN MORE THAN ONE WEEK AFTER THE PROCEDURE. I AM SEEKING LEGAL ADVICE ON THIS MATTER. MY ADVICE IS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE DISFIGURED- DO NOT GO TO THE FAB FACE & BODY PLACE

DO NOT GO TO FAB BODY AND FACE ON ST ANNE'S STREET FOR YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL. I GOT 35 CIRCULAR BURNS ON MY STOMACH. I HAVE BEEN DISFIGURED AND CONSIDERING LEGAL ACTION

Saw a thread somewhere on Therapy, very bad reviews from what I remember and a lot of people no results from it and others got severe burns

I wouldn't go near Therapy, I know two girls who ended up with bad burns and now have strange pigment strips down their legs and upper lip, one girl was getting it done for her wedding/ honeymoon and her legs where destroyed, it looks like she put fake tan in strips on her legs.

I went to laserway, I did my full course, two of the girls who did the treatment for me where lovely, a third woman who worked there was rude and didn't even do the treatment right and she was quite rough, I did complain and they agreed that it looked hurried as huge patches where not done, that set me back a few months. In the end, with extra treatments it all grew back

Hi girls I am looking to get laser done on upper lip & chin, I would really appreciate if someone could recommend a place for me as I am totally lost with all the different machines & prices... Thanks x

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 709 ✭✭✭frogstar

Clarebear, I get it on lip and chin in therapy Dublin.

I see some bad reviews here but can only think that's down to an inexperienced beautician. I go to Erin who is fab, she's Australian and really knows what she's doing. I will admit, I couldn't get her once so had to use someone else and I wasn't impressed.

I'd be v pale and quite dark, so a perfect candidate. After eight sessions I'm completely clear, as it's not permanent I prob will go back in four months for a top up. I noticed a difference after the first session but it really started to work on session 3/4

Just to warn you, the upper lip really hurts, but only for a second

Also therapie use one of the best machines out there, candela. I think Eccles surgery use it too and they get good reviews. Stay away from those deals groupon etc... It's ipl, not laser. If it sounds too good To be true it is

I got it done in the beauty studio in dun laoghaire. Got the full 6 sessions on lower legs, extended bikini, underarm, lip and toes :)

I have had to have my underarm done at least 4 more times and will need more. However this is because I found it quite painful so it was turned down for the underarm (I should've put up with the pain!) but still I only have about 10 hairs left. I have lost that dark shadow.

My legs are brilliant, I still have about 10/15 darker hairs left but I just pluck them out. I never realised how many blond hairs I had before since all the black has gone! ( laser doesn't work on them) I only shave if my legs will be on scrutiny considering it was 2 years ago that's fantastic.

My bikini needs more work, but way too lazy (and my OH doesn't care!)

Lip/toes was thrown in free, and I didn't have that many dark hairs so didn't notice a difference.

Either way, it was the best decision ever. I love it.

PS I'm very pale skinned with very dark hair, so an ideal candidate.

I would definitely reccomend laser to everyone male and female in fact I have and they were very happy I did.i always said id love to get laser especially on the bikini area as this bothered me the most but always thought it wud b too expensive and the nearest clinic was too far away then Urbana opened a clinic in my town and I was delighted. Also had a special offer for bikini and underarm have only had 3 treatments in the space of 8 months and im amazed at the results wish I had it done years ago the amount I spent on waxing I would have saved money and if that's not reason enough it practically painless I sometimes fall asleep on the bed . Would definitely recommend Aine in drogheda she makes you feel very relaxed and comfortable :-)

I wouldn't recommend laser. Had 12 sessions in all in Therapie but the hair is growing back. And yes was the ideal candidate.

While they say its a permanent form of hair removal its not, its all hormone dependent.

im an ideal candidate but have pcos so that means I dont get as long out of it as most and need a top up every 3to 4 months which I don't mind as its better than the alternative

I agree but was hoping for hair reduction at the very least. I have gone back to waxing now and the therapist couldn't believe I had laser done. In fact I think it induced hair growth in some areas

No idea why it wont work for people (even with dark hair).

I got an area done with Therapie. Started almost 2 years ago. And that area is now hair free. Granted I will go for a top up every 3/4 months, to be sure. Patience is a virtue when getting hair removal done. I thought a "session" would be every 2/3 weeks - that I'd be hair free in a couple months. My sessions were spaced out over 2/3/4 months (towards the end).

BTW, if you are getting laser done, you shouldnt be plucking or waxing any regrowth in the area (shave only) as plucking/waxing only stimulates the follicle.
