purchased an item on eBay for my boiler. this item was new.
item cost £110 inc postage post was £20
when plumber tried to fit, small push-on connection was faulty and broke off this i saw myself.
he advised me to return item to seller requesting replacement as manufactured item was faulty. requested a return from eBay and one was given.
seller wants to return item to manufacturer to determine who is at fault but now i am without my part and out of pocket £120 what should i do seller has 100% and is a trusted seller.

That sucks. the only thing you can do is to raise this with ebay themselves. It will not get sorted for a few weeks with them. I would suggest that you send the item back to the seller and let him get it sorted from the manufacturer. If you don't hear anything go to paypal and raise a case. This will again take time to get resolved, but if they find it in your favour you will get a full refund.
