    I think its a shoveller duck. He (or she?) was the only one in a pond full of mallard. He was only half the size of the mallard:

    Yep has beak of shoveler...but from colouring this smells to me like another hybrid (see adjacent thread) rather than normal wild shoveler.

    A shoveller is a big duck, same size as mallard. That one in the pic is bizarre. I've never heard of shoveller hybridizing before, its usually smaller diving ducks such as tufties, pochard, scaup etc. Or maybe you have discovered a new species - the pygmy shoveller?:D
