first off, its not for me ,its actually for my brother

he`s looking at the Ridley Orion at the minute, but he`s open to some expert opinion

the only bikes he has no interest in are the boardmans and planet x bikes, dont ask me why, he just wont entertain the idea

If he's in the region of 6ft I'm just about to sell a Dolan Hercules SE.

Bike has seen little use and been maintained to the Nth degree so in excellent condition. Worth more than €2K but €1450 will see it sold.

£1500 is apparently the most common price point in the UK (according to one of the mags I read) so there's loads of choice there.

I imagine pretty much anything at €2k will be fine, functionally speaking. Depends what the priorities are really. Internet purchase or local shop? Groupset preferences? Frameset brand preferences?

You could start with the CP Bike of the Year Contenders.

Epic Cycles usually have some interesting choices, you'd just about get a Bianchi Infinito for that. Is it for actual racing or for sportives/general recreational riding?

Are we talking about a road bike here? Or a race bike (a road bike that will be used exclusively/predominantly for racing)? Because, for me, those two would not be the same.

ok, i shoulda said, he`s 6ft6, so a big lad

he plans on joining orwell cycling club, so that would probably entail racing on some form of level

i think he wants to buy it here as with his size, he`ll want to have it fitted properly

Well that cuts down the choice a lot. Not saying that's a bad idea, but there's not much point casting around for general recommendations if his local shop only stocks a couple of brands.

edit: on the other hand, many shops are happy to order stuff in. At one stage Staggs in Lucan was going to build me a superbike based on a frameset they didn't stock, but it didn't happen for various reasons.
