Bad smell in en-suite

Hello all and a happy new tear.

I live in a 3 bed semi. The main bedroom has an ensuite. We are living here almost 4 years now. From the start, we have experienced a foul odour exuding in our ensuite, ( no not too much good living ).

It comes and goes and is particularly bad at the minute. I have tried all the obvious such as sealing around the toilet waste pipe.

Anyone experienced similiar. If so were you successful in solving it. Id like to hear.

    Thanks.

Had similar problem at work. Ripped the place apart before a plumber solved it. He walked into the toilet / shower room, had a sniff then turned the shower on - problem silved in 30 seconds. The shower was rarely used & the u-bend had dried out.

Most shower trays are fitted with what is called an easy clean shower trap. Get a pen and pop the grill off and clean any of the crap out. Then pour some hot water down.

    This is usually the problem

Make sure the toilet and shower are connected into the mains as well. If they are on separate lines and there is no stench pipe vent then there will be smells and gasses returning up the system. The stench pipe is the one at the side of the house that rises up above the roof. This allows for any gasses and foul odours to escape from the waste pipes.
