Is it possible to load up Time Capsule as a hdd on the wifi network and stream media from it to various macs around the house over iTunes Home Sharing feature? Or any other feature? I'm pretty sure AirTunes wouldn't work.

    Cheers.

I'd have thought you could, but if you are going down that route I'd vote for the DROBO (you have to buy the separate network adapter).
http://www.drobo.com/ You fill it up with disks yourself.

Drobo is expensive and not that fast, but will keep your data reasonably safe, certainly much safer compared with storing it on a regular external hard drive or Time Capsule. It won't protect from fire or theft, so if you have data that you simply cannot afford to lose, you should still save that to another disk and preferably keep it at a different location. For example, priceless family photos and important client data: keep an extra copy somewhere off-site. In the case of family photos, how about burning them to a DVD and posting them to your mom?

I should qualify this by saying that we use a Drobo at my company, and we're very satisfied with it so far. We've got ours decked out with four (4) Samsung EcoGreen 1.5 TB drives. My colleague may write a review soon. If so, I'll post a link.

If I came across too negative, Drobo is not expensive for what it is, and you certainly do get what you pay for.

The original was a bit slow, it only had USB but with FW800 it's an ideal media centre.

Also, anything with Eco in the title in computing will be slow, that's the eco bit.
