Argh, I wish I could get the RROD so I could get the extended warranty! I've been wrapping mine up in a towel all day trying to overheat it but no joy :(
I know there are certain back-alley shops in Dublin that fix them but I guess thats no use to you, sorry.

You could try this: http://www.squidoo.com/xbox_360_red_ring_of_death_fix-how_to_guide123 but I don't know how reliable it is, I've heard stories of it working but I dunno.

Wrapping up your console in a towel will produce two red lights, not three. The whole console is overheating, rather than just the RROD parts. How do you think repairers reset the permanent RROD (3 lights) so that the fixes work? They overheat the entire console to force 2 lights RROD, which is temporary and is wiped when the console is powered down.

Into the bargain, what you're doing is somewhat fraudulent...

As for back alley shops, well not quite. There are plenty of boardsies who can attempt to fix RROD's.

It's shocking how many people just assume they are out of warranty. Calling Microsoft should always be the first thing on your list, make sure you're out of warranty before cracking it open to try it yourself or leaving it in to be fixed in some shop
