Dartboard Surround

Folks i am looking for a decent dartboard surround for the dartboard. I got a surround last year in argos (red unicorn surround) and its not worth a fiddlers. Its made from foam and it doesn't prevent the wall from being marked. I see Winmau have a black surround at the minute but im wondering what material is it made out of? I have seen rubber surrounds in pubs in the past and they seem to be the best. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the Winmau myself and can tell you its made of rubber.

I have it on a unicorn board. Tight fit mind. Probably suits the winmau better.

Brenfer in Capel Street sell surrounds.

Redout is the rubber one fairly good? Is it preventing the darts from marking the wall?

another thing you can try if you're friendly with you're local publican is ask him to ask one of the brewery reps to give him a surround that he can pass on to you.smithwicks have surrounds that were given out around our way lately which were a decent quality even though a slightly strange colour.maybe worth chancing,you can only be told no.

i have one of those red unicorn surrounds myself,not great quality but stops the dart hitting the wall.you must be throwing the darts fairly hard to go threw the surround!!

Yeah mine works fine. I think the surround is of a thickness that wont allow the Dart to reach the wall if you understand what I am saying.

You would really want to be planting the thing fairly hard to do that.

Jaysus far from it lad. Throwing them as normal. Its going for the doubles that the surround gets attacked!

are you're darts actually going through the surround or slipping between the surround and board?

Whats happening is that the tip of the dart is just punching through the surround and marking the wall. Sometimes the dart does get caught between the surround and board.

i suppose a good rubber surround is what you need alrite maybe dartscorner or reddragon would be worth checking out though what you'd pay for one i amn't sure.try 501darts,he does be on this a fair bit,he might be able to help you out.

Was debating whether to spend what I think is over the odds (€45.99 in Argos, bur similar prices elsewhere) for a Unicorn surround, but seeing as they don't even seem to be that great I won't.
Heads up, Argos are selling the Unicorn Eclipse Pro board for €24.89 at the moment, they're about €40 elsewhere.
I'm thinking of getting a large enough cork message board as a surround. Any other ideas?

46eur for a surround and a board is only half that? Sounds like the shoe laces being worth more than the shoes.
I wouldn't pay that for a surround, I'd go with the cork. Draw the board outline on the cork and go to a carpenter and ask them to cut out the hole (if you don't have your own tools). Decorate to taste and away you go. Might be a bit of work but it'll do the job and you'll have the satisfaction of doing it yourself and not forking out 50 notes which is robbery.

By the way on the Unicorns Eclipse- I have one for nearly a year and it's in good nick. Definitely lasting longer than the blade III.
