How do I setup port fowarding on an Eircom/Netopia modem/router?

I'm trying to setup Windows Home Server so I can access it when I am away from home. Now WHS is able to configure some router/modems automatically, I have a Netopia router/modem which is supplied with our Eircom package which WHS doesn't seem to want to talk to.
What I want to know is how do I access the port fowarding section of the Netopia box so I can configure it myself?

    Got it, thanks.

Does Eircom block ports 80 443 and 4125? I'm having trouble with remote access on WHS.

They don't unless they've started doing it lately....

To get WHS to set up your forwards automatically, you could check that UPnP is active on the netopia:
    http://192.168.1.254/indexExptCfgRES.htm?confConnRES.htm
and while you're on that page, make sure your connection is always on, otherwise you won't be able to connect inward if the connection isn't used!

I set connect type to Always On and got WHS to auto config it but I still get can not verify that My Remote Website is available from the internet.

you could try using this page:

    http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=boards.ie

replacing boards.ie with your IP adress...

BTW, if you want to be clever, you could setup dynamic dns to give you a webaddress that is updated to match your ip adress...

my bad - that site doesn't work with IPs, but this might:

Says its down for everyone. Is the DNS thing trick to do?

perhaps...that is it down for me site might just be sending a ping packet, which your WHS may not respond to, which is why I suggested using the netcraft uptime site as it tells you what webserver you're running. The crucial bit is something is connecting from the internet inwards.

If you wish, PM me your IP, and I can tell you whether it loads or not. Otherwise, you could setup a dynamic dns webaddress (www.dyndns.org), which means you;d have to configure your router to update it (here's a guide: http://www.mswerk.com/files/CBCA/ConfiguringDDNSonaNetopia2200&3300SeriesRouter.pdf)
and once that's working you could try the netcraft site again. Chances are you'd want to setup dyn dns anyway in future for ease of use...

Check the firewall setttings on the router. - I remember scratching my head for ages before noticing it. You have to set it to 'Low', rather than the default 'Medium', otherwise it will drop most incoming connections without notice.

    + 1 what stesh said.
Port forwarding does not seem to work on the Netopia with the firewall set to medium.
