HEy, I was looking at buying a 2g Iphone as I want 16gb phone but cant afford the 3g one at the moment. Are the 2g phones any good or should I just hold out? What would be its limitations etc?

    Thanks.

I have a 2g iPhone for almost 2 years now. I have never held onto a phone that long.

It all depends on what you want to do - I play the odd game (Warfare Inc., Secret of Monkey Island and some slash and hack game I can't remember the name of). I also listen to music (listening to it right now via my stereo) and do the odd bit of surfing.

For that, the only limitation is the size. I have about 13Gb of music, plus videos and games. So my 8Gb of storage is simply not enough.

I don't use GPS, nor do I have the need for 3G, so they are not an issue.

In summary, it does everything I need it to do. So, it all depends on what you want to do.

(Having said that, I am thinking of upgrading, it's currently a toss-up between the N900, the Google Nexus and the 3GS 32Gb. I am swaying towards the 3GS :D)

As far as I know, that is correct (guess which other function I don't use :) ).

When I was back in Ireland for Christmas all of two days ago, I was also on O2 prepay and internet was fine. I would always use the mobile version of sites, so it was very responsive. It's 1 Euro a day up to 50Mb (plenty) and something like 2c per Kb after that.

I'm really not sure about the "50Mb (plenty)" bit. Does it accumulate? Very easy to go through 50Mb..

Absolutely, if you are looking at the full version of websites.

Using the mobile versions of RTE.ie, Irish Times and Boards.ie, I never went over the 50Mb limit.

well if you planing to play alot of games and use apps, you will need 3gs bud. As it is alot faster then even 3g...

But if you would need it only for making calls/sms/music then 2g would be more then enought, but if you planing playing games, you will be looking for 3gs in the next 2 weaks after buying 2g ;)

    Why?

Any game I have tried on the 1st Gen iPhone has worked flawlessly.

    feuture ;)

even now alot of games load and work smoother than 3g, even some games get aditional graphics.

For example: NOVA game has multiplayer on 3gs and all lower devices dont :(. Its all about experience, i personally hate laggy games since pentuim 1 times... hate low fps!
