    Hey all..

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, so forgive me if not. I haven't moved the car since the day before Christmas Eve because it got stuck in snow, then the icy conditions hit. So the battery is dead. I have a halfords portable powerpack 100 to jump start it, but I can't find the plug to charge it first! It's not written anywhere on the pack what input power supply to use on it, and we've loads of spares which would physically fit, does anyone else out there have one to check?

    Thanks!

I assume you want to know the rating of the charger? I have one of those power packs and it says on the plug that its 230v 50hz 69ma.input and 13.5v direct current 500ma, 6.75va output. Dont know if thats what you want, james.

You can also use a standard battery charger i.e. red croc clip to red croc clip and black to black etc. I leave mine connected to a 1 amp solar panel at all times.

So do I, but my solar panel would only be a fraction of 1 amp

What kinda panel do you have?

maplins 30Euro job, rated 1 amp max so average is probably a good deal lower, it does the job though.

1 amp max means about 15W max right? Haven't seen those for under £100 on Maplins website - here's their 18W max solar panel for £180. Did you get some super special offer?

Sorry to but in but, I got one of these last year in halfords  but I have not used it alot but the times I have used it, it was ok it done the job. There is an anti-spark feature on where power will not flow to the clips until it is connected to the battery. One fault I thought with it was the leads are glued together too close at the clips where there is not alot of slack when you are connecting to the batt.Apart from that ok. It cost 89.99 euro.

There is no problem, your advice is appreciated. There is also a cheaper one at 74.99 which can be viewed at
    http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_langId_-1_partNumber_210930#dtab

Do you know what Halfords are like in case of need to return? Thank you

Yeah I have seen that one alright. The one I have also has an air compressor and 2 fluorescent lights on it too.Its also got a lead with a cigarette lighter plug on each end for charging up a batt thats only a little discharged and you could also use this to keep things powered up if for instance you had to disconnect the batt. There is a bigger "200" one that also has an household appliance socket that will take up to 300w too but that's about 115euro or something. The one in the pic is a basic one I'd say.

Oh I dont work for halfords:D I sound like it tho:o

So your one is both a jump starter and a through- the- cigatette- lighter- battery booster?

Can you recharge it through the cig lighter as well as the home power points? Thanks you

Ah grand. The 1W is probably sufficient to keep it charged as long as you're not using it :)

So use it -> charge it up with the plugged in charger overnight -> keep it topped up with the solar charger until next use
