Despite playing for over 10 years, I still seem to know very little about electric guitars...I've a Squire Strat, which I realise is a piece of shit, hence why I've borrowed a mate's Strat to use for gigs, but I think it's about time to get my own decent electric. I've already a nice Tanglewood acoustic and a beautiful €5000 Montero classical, but I've never had a good electric.

Thinking about €500-€1000 maybe, definitely the cheaper the better, but I do want a quality instrument.

I generally go for a warm jazzy kind of sound, playing a lot of skaa, jazz and funk, but I also like to have to option to play a more electricy kind of sound too. I'm thinking of a Telecaster maybe, but I'm open to anything really. Any suggestions?

A Tele wouldn't be the best option for a warm jazzy sound.

^ This should do the trick. They can do anything from jazzy stuff to punk. Such a simple guitar yet so versatile. It forces you to adjust your playing to get the sound rather than giving you a bunch of pickup positions or knobs. :)

Cheers for the advice, but I think I'd prefer to stick with a Fender, thinking either a Strat or a Jaguar, although I will go into town and play a few Gibsons and see what I think.

Just looking at the Jaguars, and the Strats too, on Thomann, and there's so many different types for different prices, and I've no idea what seperates them...any chance anyone could tell me the difference between these three Jaguars for example?
