O2 broadband billing problems

I have had 02 broadband for 2 months now. Please tell me, if I am completele stupid.

    Here is what I thought:
    1. "Monthly data 10 GB". As no-one mentioned anything else, I presumed I had 10 GB per calender month. As I got the broadband 22nd of October, I thought I could use 10GB in in October and it was reset 1st of November again.

    2. O2 changed the the limit from 10GB to 15GB in November for 18 month contract. I presumed it was changed for all the customers like other companies do, so I just made sure I stay under 15 GB limit.

    Here is what happened:
    1. "Month" is counted from 22nd of October to 21 of November and so on. Just noticed this yesterday, when started to pay the bill. => When quit badly over the limit.

    2. O2 doesn't change the limits for old customer. If customer starts with 10GB, he will be stuck with 10GB for whole 18 month contract.

Result is 330e bill for a bit over 2 months and I have to say I was a bit surprised. Was I just stupid and customers are expected to know these things? Just called to O2 and they just told O2 store should have told these things, they didn't, but it's my fault anyway.

Also what happens in Ireland, if I just don't pay the bill?

You presumed an awful lot, and didn't check anything. That's never going to have a happy ending. These are all things you could have easily checked online, in your account information section. It would have only taken a minute.

I'd have to agree... you did assume alot without without checking it out.

i've never been so fortunate that any company has reduced my line rental without telling me... Besides if it's with an 18 month contract you'd have to give your consent before you can be changed over...

I'd presume you'd get solicitors letters if you don't pay your bill. Other people on the forum have mentioned agreeing a payment plan...

Yep, I could have checked it online, but as I always had the stick installed to Dovado router, never on computer, I couldn't easily check the SMS needed for registration for the website. Router also had statistics about the trafic, so I just followed it and made sure it was under the limit (well, under the wrong limit :P ).

Anyway, I already paid the bill. It's not that expensive for a learning experience. I have been too lucky in Ireland for last years, so I guess it was time to something like this to happen.

Truth is that this O2 broadband works much better than Magnet 7,6MB broadband. Speed is the same, no disconnections (Magnet breaks 5-10 times per day), just the ping is worse with 02 (150ms vs 50ms, but not too bad).

The same as will happen anywhere. You either get taken to court or you debt gets sold to a debt collection agency. Did you for some strange reason think not paying in Ireland would be different than other countries
