my dad wants to set his laptop up so he can control his computer at home when he's away on the road.

i was looking into it for him, and found windows remote sucks bad.

then i checked out VNC viewer, but its expensive.

can anyone reccommend any free software thats secure and safe to use?

    thanks!

VNC is more a protocol than application, and should always be free, try TightVNC and ensure you're properly opening the relevant ports.

You could try windows remote desktop if it's a pro operating system...you have to forward port 3389 from the router to the pc:

Edit: just noticed you werent too keen on remote desktop! what was it about that was bad?

I have tried most of the solutions and logmein is the best by far. Very easy to set up and very robust.
