I recently bought a new Netbook (Samsung NC10) - I am not happy with the speed it is running at so want to reinstall Windows XP - is there anywhere to find a simple step by step guide to doing this?

There is no DVD drive in the laptop - should I just copy the discs that came with the computer to a USB key on a different machine?

have a read of a review like this one.

    http://www.liliputing.com/2008/04/install-windows-xp-on-mini-note-usb.html

its easy, but requires you to prepare the usb stick first.

There is an icon on the desktop called Samsung Recovery
there is also a Func+F5 which also starts the recovery process

Both of the above have a First Aid icon

I know you asked explicitly about Windows, but if you are going to reinstall why not give Ubuntu a try for 24 hours? http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download. It'll be faster than Windows, and 10 times cooler

You say that you recently bought the laptop, and that you are not happy with the speed.

Does that mean that it was never fast enough for you or has it slowed a lot after using it?

It seems strange that if you bought it recently, that it would nave slowed to the point that you are not happy with the performance, which suggests that it was nerver fast enough in the first place, in which case, reinstalling might not make any difference.

Is there a lot of bloatware on the original install?
