Illegal downloaders will be sent a warning e-mail, then a letter if they continue, and finally must appear before a judge if they offend again.

The judge can impose a fine, or suspend their access to the internet.

This will inevitably spread throughout the rest of the EU through ATCA.

I could possibly see that being appealed as it is full of holes and could be a possible attack on our freedom of speech and expression.

    Yes indeed.

There is little hope of a bad law being easily repealed and so I hope the opposition to the latest update to the law that Minister Sherlock is to sign will be stopped ...... at least it *might* cause the whole law in that area to be examined and updated.

    ...... ever the optimist ......

Hopefully as there is quite a lot of anger about it.

Did anyone really expect it would have an effect?

It will only encourage people particularly students to file swap rather than downloading.

It would be virtually impossible to police this unless the authorities are given warrants for random checks on these devices. Under ATCA we could possibly see this carried out at borders and ports of entry.
