Friend gave me windows xp pc as she upgraded. She had external speakers working on it. I can't get any sound now. Can anybody out there help me to get the internal ones working again?

I would guess that it just doesn't have internal speakers -- as it's pretty hard to disable them -- or, if it does, it would only be a basic monophonic speaker used for emitting "beeps" so you can diagnose some system errors.

If you care about sound quality at all, get external speakers or just use headphones.

yup its well worth getting external speakers, the sound quality is unbelievable superior. Their not dear either, €50/60 Meantime plug in headphones. :)

btw could it be something simple like the volume is turned off, check the sound symbol on the task bar if its there, if not go to control panel>sound devises and check there volume level is turned up.
