Right, so I have an idea that I want to pursue...But I am nervous (on course!). I did Entrepreneurship in college as a minor subject so did a Business Plan before. But now that I have started to look at the subject for real, I'm a little overwhelmed.

Firstly, there's so many different templates out there. How do you know what kind of one to follow. What's the right info to put into one...

Also, the course unfortunately never prepared me for the doing side of a business. So I could potentially have the ability to plan (if I believe in myself) but I don't know legal aspects such as employing people, taxes, sales & VAT and so on...

I am currently looking at the prospect of doing a nightcourse (Limerick). Hoping that these will educate me in other aspects that I am weaker at but may also be practical for my own idea - in that I'll actually get to put together a plan. Hoping that other benefits will include a deadline (i.e. I have to get it done rather than working on my other stuff) plus there will be a safety net of someone double-checking so that I am "selling" my idea as well as I can.

    Two in mind:
    HSI
    LCFE

Anyone have experience of these? Or failing that...does reading the overview fill you with confidence or expectation?

    Thanks all.

    🤪

You should go and have a chat with your local County Enterprise Board or LEADER Group. They will have information on the courses available and may also be in a position to provide some degree of "mentoring" for the areas you might be weak in.

Starting a business can be daunting but much of the procedure involved in doing a business plan can help you gain the confidence you need to actually do it.It is a learning curve so you will understand more as you go along. Do a start your own business course. You will be in an environment with people just like yourself.Go to your local County Enterprise Board and have a chat with someone there. They have information on starting in business and they will help you where they can.I work with one and thats our job. They will also do heavily subsidised start your own business courses.Get the workbook Starting your own business by Oak Tree Press. Its quite user friendly and will answer most of your questions.Have a look on www.revenue.ie for the revenues guide to Starting in business. It will help explain the tax system.
Good luck and remember there is lots of help out there.
