Laptop DVD thru' TV - No Sound

I have been using my laptop to view TV shows etc via OVGuide on my LCD TV with no problems. To use the laptop again I change back the sound settings. My DVD Player packed up and I have tried to play a DVD from the laptop via HDMI to the TV. I get the picture but no sound - except for some ear splitting pips. Where am I…

Where am I going wrong ?

All sound setting are as if I was streeming TV.
