I know we're nowhere near the warm side of winter yet.But how has your winter been going? The weather can't be helping too much.

We've had to thaw the pipes in the shed 4 days in a row and finally reversed the system by putting the water from the house well through the system, here's hoping the pump doesn't explode from the strain

winter is going ok feed wise but one shed in particular is always freezing up, and then the other shed (peat bedded) the cattle pulled the pipe off the drinker and completly flooded the peat all had to be taken out day before xmas eve and bedded with straw, more money down the drain, sure what can you do

Same here. Terrible water problems. Slatted shed water frozen for nearly all xmas and still frozen! Even the house was frozen for a few days! So am going to the river with slurry tanker most days to get water.

Some of our water pipes arent buried in the ground but they are insulated in our older shed!

Question: does anyone know if there is any insulation out there than can insulate water pipes that are not buried in the ground? (100% insulation)?

The grey PE foam is the best but it would be hard work covering all the pipework outside!

    Thanks CJhaughey.

Can I ask why would it be hard work...is it hard to fit it onto 1/2 inch water pipe with snap ties...?

Most of our water pipeing is going through our old shed about 7 ft up from ground level (we had concrete area in yard so didnt bury the pipes)

it isnt hard work unless the pipes are in an unreachable possition , thier is a split in the lengths of insulation which you cut with a scissors which allows you to fix it around the pipe ,then cable tie it every few yards or so but that alone may not save you but it will certainly help

one thing ive noticed in the bros shed is a pipe which was supplying a drinker was slightly perrished and thus leaking water this two months , turned out to be a blessing in disguise , by continuasly leaking ,the supply doesnt freeze :)

I guess it depends on how much pipework you have to cover, it is split and does work well, but you must cut 90 deg angles to allow any joints to be covered as well.
Cable ties work but also think of using silage tape to hold difficult sections closed.
I was thinking of some pipe runs that go for a long way, wouldn't like to try insulating them!

my winter is still a bi*** had a bit of a thaw today, pipes are leaking in 3 places, cattle are flying through silage, todays indo quotes prices of 40 yoyo for bbs.
I'm not far from :rolleyes:BIRRRRRRRR, -8 C most nights, cattle are still ok for water with big tank fed from roof. Hard to imagine yearlings out in mid feb.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.
