Is this bike good value for money?

So the story is, bought a cheap bike (£89) this time last year to try and lose a bit of weight and thank fook it worked but now the thing is beat and i need a new bike. I was toying with the idea of getting a road bike but after getting a lend of one for a few days i don't think it's for me so a mountain bike it is. Seen this one on the halfords website http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_253047_langId_-1_categoryId_165499#dtab which looks good value but just want a second opinion from the people on here. I would normally cycle 15 -20 miles 2 or 3 times a week.

or if anyone can point me in the direction of a decent bike that would be great.

That would not be a good bike. Unless you are paying big bucks, avoid suspension.

I think you should avoid any suspension, full stop. It won't work properly at that price point. Best bike for the road, is a road bike

I think Raam meant avoid all suspension-those bikes all have front suspension.
Probably need to say what type of riding you are doing-on or off road- to get a decent opinion.

I have to agree with Raam on this one. Obviously each to his own, but for what its worth, I've recently switched from a hybrid/city bike (similar set up to a MTB re bars etc) to a road bike and, once its set up correctly for you, the road bike IMHO is the better.

Now if only this snow and ice would clear and i could get back out on it

I would suggest that a road bike or perhaps a hybrid is what you need. Also it would be better to buy from a bike shop rather than somewhere like halfords.You will get more advice there from people who are interested in and understand cycling.

As Raam said- a road bike would be best. A borrowed one not set up for you might not give a good impression.

If you need mtb type position this is a good compromise.

Has road tyres(mtb tyres and suspension really slow you down on road) and is better specced than the ones you pointed out.Halfords Carrera bikes are generally considered to be much better than their cheap stuff.Loads lighter too.I have one and I think its great value for money.Halfords staff can be useless however.

Carrera Subway is probably the best bike Ive ever seen for e260. Avoid Apollo and trax and all the other ****e that Halfords try sell cheap.

Id go with Carrera Subway.:)
