It is 3.24 pm and ET is on RTÉ One. It's not past the watershed and a kid is after calling someone penis breath and mentioning perverts.

This is an outrage! I have already sent my letter of complaint to the Director General.

By the way, they showed Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile yesterday and the day before, and they're full of swearing. And Titanic was on Christmas eve which has swearing and breasts!

The lax rules on pre-watershed content is one of the few good things about tv in his country.

What, male kids don't have penises in Ireland any more? That's gonna mess up your plans of having future generations.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    *sigh*

I think you'll find penis and pervert aren't profanities.

I saw two peole kissing on a valentines card in the shop once - Someone think of the poor children, we do not need our children exposed to this blatent sexualisation - I was stright down to the local priest to ask god for forgiveness!

The breath of someone who hasn't washed their teeth in a while...?

Personally, I'm more appalled at the CGI placed into this classic.

Ah, back on topic. Excellent. Personally, the CGI didn't bothger me too much as it wsa the storyline the made the movie for me in the first place.

It a good thing they're not showing the non-bastardised version, the mother calls the older son a terrorist in the Halloween scene and men have guns at one point, also E.T is mostly naked for the entire duration of the movie, except the scene where he's dressed as a woman, terrorism, naked aliend and cross dressing in a childrens movie, the shame!

I wouldn't mind E.T. so much, but Elliot is such an annoying kid... Then I guess most kids would be annoying in this scenario.

"Kids vs. Grown ups" becomes a bit of a pain as well...though I admit it's not as bad as "Ritchie blimmin' Rich".

The adult aspect of ET is done brilliantly though, aside from Elliot's mother you never really see any other adults faces in the first half of the movie, Peter Coyotes character is only ever seen from the waist down and so is the teacher in the frogs scene, its a great depiction of the faceless adult authority that kids have to deal with

I hate when they tamper with films like that and make them more PC. George Lucas ruined Star Wars - so what if Han Solo shoots first  Most of us watched ET in its original form when we were nippers and it doesn't appear to have done any serious damage to us....or has it

Yes. But if we stamp out Gay kissing we'd have to get rid of it all as it would be discrimination.

    It's a nice way to call someone a c*cksucker.

On the same theme I watched 3 men and a baby the other day and never remembered that they took delivery of the child because they thought it was a quarter mill worth of heroin they were waiting on.....the 80's eh?A decadent decade indeed.

I'm wondering if the op was really offended by what they saw in ET?

I remember when I was a kid and there were adult themes abounding in kids films. Return to Oz, Transformers, Batman, etc were all films which while aimed at children contained subject matter which these days would never be allowed within a hundred miles of a kids film. In fact bar Bridge to Tebitatha and Up I can't recall a kids film which dealt with the concept of death in a very long time.

Kids these days are wussies, can you imagine something like the Wheelers from Return to Oz being allowed into a childrens movie nowadays? or something like The Dark Crystal, that scene where the head Skeksie dies used to terrify me as a child, we had The Goonies, Back to Future, Gremlins, Indiana Jones and Labyrinth, kids nowadays have High School Musical, Madagascar and Hannah Montana, god i love bein a child of the 80s

The person who cuts TV shows and Films for RTÉ's pre-watershed schedule should be promoted. :)
