    Greetings,

I've never used a dentist in Ireland (!) I've no idea how I find one, what the procedure is, who pays for it etc.

My previous dentist was a on-site company dentist. They covered everything.

I asked around amongst my friends, got a reccomendation, rang them, asked if they were taking new patients, they said yes, I got an appointment, gave them my details, the rest is history :) Has to be paid for privately, some procedures are covered by the medical card if you have one.

Some of my dental work is covered by health insurance, some can be claimed back on tax, I'm a little fuzzy on both these because last time I did anything about claiming back it was 2006, probably has changed? Hopefully someone will fill you in on this.

Re: claiming back, you can claim back for certain dental and orthodontic procedures. The rebate used to be equivalent to the highest rate of tax that you payed, but now it's a flat 20% regardless.

There is a comprehensive list here of what is and isn't covered, and how you apply for it.
