I'm after losing the house key and am now locked out of the house and my housemate won't be around till Sunday night . Thankfully the office is close by or I'd be sleeping rough tonight.

This is never happened to me before so not sure what I'm meant to do. If I call a locksmith in the morning can they just open the door for me? I'm only renting there so don't want to change all the locks so if I can just get inside I'd be fine as theres a spare key inside.

Any one any idea how much this would roughly cost?

    PS Yes I'm an idiot.

    Hi,
I've been in a similar position to yourself so don't worry! A good locksmith should be able to open the door without damaging it but there's no guarantee and they will warn you about that before they start. Now it was €60 when he did it for me but that was a long time ago so makes sure you have enough money. You'll also need to provide two sets of proof of identity. One that says who you are and another that proves that you live there. The second part is fine usually, once they've opened the door, just go inside and get a bank statement or bill that shows you live there and that will satisfy the locksmith.

Above all, don't worry! Put it down to experience and you'll be fine!

ok thanks. The ID will be fine could be an issue with the proof of address though as all bills etc... are in landlords name

I think any proof of address is fine so bank statement, credit card bill, any official letter you've received with a name and address on it should be fine. I hope you get sorted soon!

    Hi OP,

Is there any point in contacting the landlord? He may have a spare key or have some suggestions, sorry this has happened on such a day, best of luck getting into the heat and comfort of your home xx

Contact the landlord and ask them to let you in?
