Hi, I have the Huawei E1550 modem from Three, and its getting speeds of 3.6mbps. Is there a way to unlock it or do something to make it receive speeds of 7.2mbps like their other models?

The modem lock keeps it on one provider's network, nothing to do with speed. If there's a firmware update, it could allow higher speeds. This will only work if the sector you're in is also enabled for higher speeds, which I don't think most of them are.

If you update the firmware to allow that speed you should be ok. All 3's sites have now been upgraded to 7.2mbps. Be aware just cause you upgrade to 7.2mbps doesn't mean your speed will be any faster as your speed is down to many factors
