Nikon D50, Sigma Tele 80-300 f4.5, tripod ...fiddle with the aperture and time somewhat until the moon is no longer a white blob and shows some texture (f4.5/ 1000 if I remember correctly) take huge pictures of black sky with tiny moon, enlarge, crop
