i have a 05 1.4 ford focus, i dont really know how to describe it properly but under say 2500 revs its really jumpy as if its runnin on 4 then 3 then 4 then 3 etc, it was happenin a small bit but has got worse since i serviced it, now for the funny bit, if the engine management light comes on it stops altogether but comes back when the light goes out, i was thinkin it could be the coil pack but cant see how it would run ok when the light is on

when i had a 99 focus, the air flow meter had to be replaced and when it was disconnected the car ran fine but drank petrol, could it be the same thing with this one but i think the air flow meter is part of the throttle body in the newer ones

The car needs a diagnostic session from an experienced Ford mechanic or engineer.

Sounds like a coilpack problem though, but check it properly.

She is running thru a different circuit on limp mode aka fail safe.
Might be the coils or might be something else.
She really needs an experts hands on assesment at this stage.

Check all the air intake hosing for small cracks where it'll be sucking air.Possible solution:)

I would agree with the coilpack as father has same car and had those problems. Check your spark plugs too for water collecting on top of them, also check the HT leads that connect to them are fitted correctly, look inside for a chalky residue.

I wouldn't say that is the problem but could be adding to it. Clean plugs and check for gunk on the battery terminals too, clean off if there is and get something abrasive i.e. sandpaper and give it a going over with that too. You would be suprised with the results!
