Time Machine Prob.

My iMac has, for some reason, stopped backing up to my WD external HD.
When I open Time M. it asks me to choose Back up disc. Then "Set Up Time Capsule", then it starts scanning for Apple Wireless devices. What's happening?
WD is plugged in but no hum out of it. No sign of life?

    Cheers for any help.

try the hd on a different machine to rule out something amiss in the USB bus.

If the hd fails to spin up on the different machine ---- it's dead!

No power going in to it. Light on power plug OK but light on WD hard drive not coming on. I used to have it on permanently as there is no on / off switch on the thing. Mistake I think. Turn in on for a few minutes every week would be better. Ordered a new one anyway.

Might just be the enclosure that's dead. I had a similar problem with a WD MyBook a couple of years ago. The enclosures are cheap ****. I took the drive out and put it in a new enclosure and it worked fine. Although not for long - the new closure had very poor ventilation and the drive promptly roasted itself to death. :o

I've had a couple of power supply failures on a 2tb Iomega HD that I have, replaced for free by iomega and works fine again, I'd nearly say there's no voltage getting to the HD, it could be fine, I've had my 2tb MyBook Pro on for over a year and a half now without issue, TM backs it up on the hour every hour.

Should I send it back to Komplett where I bought it or what?

    Cheers.
