PS3 Slim stopped reading disks

My PS3 slim 120gb that I bought on the 1st of December has just stopped reading disks. Pi**ing me off somewhat as I only bought it to play over christmas. Gamestop were just shut when I went into town so I guess I'll have to wait till Saturday to replace it now. Is this something that happens a lot. I see a lot of the old ps3's have blu-ray problems but I would have thought the new slim models would have all the kinks ironed out.

That sucks, disk reading failure is an issue on all consoles.
The wii, ps3 and xbox all have failures, thats what ya get when your building millions of units.
Just be glad it didnt happen outside waranty.

Yup, I am in luck with the warrany. This problem seems to be a lot more prevelant than I initially thought though. So chances are it'll probably happen again outside of warranty. I'm not very impressed with Sony's attitude to the problem.

Be grateful you have a warranty !
If you dont it costs a shed load to get it repaired which pi$$es me off.

    Why did you contact Sony?

I'd have been straight back to the retailer for a replace.

Don't buy the ps3 its very very poor.I have an xbox 360 elite and is way better not only graphics but for online services .But the bad thing about xbox 360 is that it breaks about 3 years after buying but is very easy to repair it.

Oh ****. I wish you told us this before now. I didn't know this. Do you think I should see if I could return mine? It's out of warranty though :(.

I rang Sony cause the guy in Gamestop suggested it. I didn't have my receipt at the time so what harm could it have done. But if I had had my receipt there was no way I be leaving Gamestop off the hook :) Anyhow, I went back to GS after work this evening and I now am the proud owner of a bran new ps3.

As for the 360 debate, I had over a year ago. Never used it so just sold it on. The PS3 has games that suit me better. I'd be far from the biggest gamer in the world.

Glad you're sorted. Just glad they didn't pull any crap like repairs given you only had it a few days.

What do you think is better on ps3 than xbox 360?

Just wanted to say thanks, I traded in my PS3 yesterday after seeing your post and bought an XBox 360. It is so super-magically more brilliant than the PS3 not only graphics but for online services like you said.

The graphics were so like duuuuuuude is this real life?! And when using online services it was like better service than a top-class restaurant.

I wish I just smashed my PS3 though. I'm so angry, because like you said they're very very poor. I can see that now.

    Thanks marky boii, thanks.
