Best way to return a wheel to UK?

I'm looking for a little advice - maybe someone's already had this hassle?

Back wheel needs to go back, complete with freehub, which makes an awkward shape. I managed to find a box big enough to take it, but it's massive.

Will An Post take it? It's nearly a foot wide, then take your wheel, and add maybe a foot to the width, and half a foot to the height. Are there cheaper options for sending parcels on a one-off basis?

    Thanks in advance!

According to this you would need to calculate the "dimensional weight" which must be less than 20Kg (3 stone 2 lb)
Sometimes, large items with a light overall weight - such as a box of pillows - can be charged according to their Dimensional Weight. This reflects the additional cost of transporting light but sizeable items.
    To calculate the Dimensional Weight: (L x W x D) / 6,000
    (L, W, D in centimetres)

Yes, they will take it, I have posted wheels back to both CRC and Wiggle before. Cost around €20 for Britain IIRC, NI was cheaper. If you go to a smaller post office they may not be so aware of the dimensional weight thing and they will just weigh it (my local one did both times anyway.)

I sent a rear wheel back to the UK, I created a "box" from the bike box that everything came in (Planet X). I guess it looked like a huge ravioli! I'm sure the box weighed more than the wheel. The PO weighed it and charged me about €20. Must have been OK as PX returned the wheel in the same box.

Yeah, that sounds about right! Thanks for the replies guys... now I just have to get the box to the Post Office!
