Asbestos disposal

Hi, I have a boiler flue which most likely contains cement asbestos. I believe it would be between 2-10% asbestos. From what I have read, in the UK it is possible to double bag such an item and bring it to certain county council disposal sites. Is there anything like that in Dublin? All I can find are private contractors.

How long is the boiler flue?
Breaking, cutting or drilling the flue during its removal with be the problem. Anything that causes asbestos dust is a health danger. Maybe you could contact the Enviro Section of your L.A for advise.

Yeah Asbestos is a terrible thing to get rid of. I know I worked on a site about 10 years ago and even then it was expensive to get rid of it. I remember we had sheets of it on the roof. A specialist crew came in and were all suited up and they even had a mobile shower room to wash in. I think it cost the gaffer about €10k to get rid of the roof at that time. I think it had to be shipped off to Germany and he was issued with a cert. I am sure if you check out online there should be some more information that could help you.

If you check some of the other posts in home and garden there was a guy on there who was involved in the removal of aspestos, REF (asbestos roof).

very dear to get rid of, my local co op closed down last year, went up for sale had two buildings with asbestos roofs, was for sale for 6 months and one night the 2 buildings burned to the ground  , huge crew for clean up and shipped to german to be disposed of further, as another post said had to get clearence certs for it, and i believe even small amounts are costly to shift nowadays

We get a rubbish removal guy for jobs that we do ,I think he charges around €60 per 1 metre section of asbestos flue.

Anytime asbestos is on jobs ,we give people this chaps number and let them sort it out. So I don't know the exact price

DONT let a rubbish removal guy get rid of it....it will be dumped somewhere, and unless you have whats called a C1 Consignment note, completed and signed by an EPA licenced transfer station, YOU are ultimately responsible.

If you need any further info please PM me ... We are an approved asbestos removal contractor
