Ok folks with another year looming and personal targets/aspirations being set I think a thread on practice drills should be looked at. Everyone is going to have different aspects of their game needing more attention than others be it putting, driving, chipping or even the mental approach.

So what drills do you do in practice to work on your game? I know I need to improve my approach shot so what can I do to help me along, simply hitting irons will only get me so far. Please feel free to put in any drill for any aspect as this might help others in what they need.

I guess the best advice is to ask a teaching pro.

What are the problems with your approach shots?

If it's inconsistency then hitting lots of shots will help as will getting a lesson on the basics (most people don't do the basics correctly). You may find that you don't have a repeating way to setup or your aim is off or you have a swing flaw.

Always practice to a target and go through your setup routine. Note if you shots are going left, right, short or whatever,

Know your distances.......how far do you hit each iron (the average......not the longest).

When on the course........hit towards the safe side of the green so that if you miss you have an easier chip. Don't fire at the flag unless you are a very low handicapper.

Hi stockdam and cheers for the reply!

Everything you have said makes sense and to be honest I would do a lot of all that anyway. My main problem on my approach shots seems to be accuracy, my ball striking and distance would be very good so I know it's set up. Lessons make perfect sense I and have received some.

Guess what my initial post was aimed at was what practice drills do you do to work on a certain aspect of your game that needs improving, yeah lessons are the obvious but I'm sure some people have got good practice drills out there to get you more focused on your shots be that shot driving, chipping, putting etc

Thanks again and happy new year to ya

Try the shawn clement videos on youtube (clemshaw). I find them terrific, they cover everything you'll ever need to know.
