If I sell my house and buy another property in a new area, I am unsure whther it will affect my social welfare payment. I work part time and am on lone parent allowance. I do not have a mortage.(house had been late parents house left to me as it was also my family home I am seperated).

Hi Irishjim111 Thank you for your reply. but what I am thinking of is if I sell my home and say get 250,000k and am not ready to buy in a new area would they say you now have this money to use? I am supporting my 2 kids yet still in college. one is not getting a grant or have no income so totaly dependant on me and it is tough going I was thinking of trying to get a place where he could live with me and save on rent. any ideas welcome

Once you have over 20k in savings- it is considered to be part of your means and will impact on social welfare entitlements.
