    Hi All,
Any thoughts on where to get some Brazil Real before heading off on hols?
Tried the PTSB, BOI & UB they don't do it. Searched through threads, recommendations seem to be:
    - use visa card (found the atm locator in the FAQ, there seems to be plenty where we're going)
    - bring Euro & change there.
    - Thomas Cook on Grafton st. Closed now!

Would like to have some Real in my pocket getting off the plane as it will be late on a Sat night when we arrive.

    Thanks.

I imagine you'll be flying via somewhere to get to Brazil. The airport to transfer would have an currency exhange - and if an airline flies to Brazil from there, you can be fairly sure they will stock Real :)

    Good idea, thanks.
Unfortunately our connection is quite tight, so we may not have the time.

If there's a plane flying in then some currency exchange will be open, regardless of time. I didn't even think of currency when I flew in, and it was very early morning.

If you are staying in a hotel you can email them in advance and request a taxi pickup from the airport, they will add this to your bill.
Hotels will exchange Euro for local currency.

Currency exchange in Dublin airport has a good selection of funny money.

P.S. If you are connecting through CDG in Paris - good luck, disaster of a place!!

Get it in an ATM at the airport you arrive at in Brazil.

    was in brazil last feb

just got money out at the atm when we got there

you can use laser cards or visas in all atms there so thats the best way to get cash

no point in ever carrying any large amounts of cash with you there cause theres a relatively high chance you will get robbed by some kids on the street or even in your hostel etc

only carry small amounts of cash, you wont find any brazilian currency in irish banks anyway afaik

I ordered in a small amount of currency to my local bank when I was heading to Asia. Like you, I didn't want to leave until I got there as I was travelling alone and needed to get a bus right after the plane. Yes, it cost more in commission, but it was absolutely worth it to not worry about my ATM card not working when I got there or not having time during my connection (and as it happened, the first flight was delayed and I was rushed straight to the plane). You just need to order a while in advance (how long depends on the bank) and pick it up when it's ready.
