It would fall under legal rights, not of merchantable quality etc. Pop back and see what they say. dont be afraid to go to the manager. You go through the whole sale of goods and supply of services act.

Have a letter with you in expectation they tell you to hop off.

Jumping the Gun much? Its a warranty issue. Everything has a 12 month Warranty at least.

    Amm No...

The good is dodge... Ergo it falls into sale of goods supply of services act. It allows for the repair replace or refund of the item. Your warranty falls in behind and in support of your legal rights.

And no everything does not have a 12m warranty at least it is up to the manufacturer. Also the statutory rights are with the shop.

Ya can try the warranty but i'd say you'll be told it is customer damaged rather than faulty.

Here is what i think will happen:
    Bring it to PC World,
They send it back to E machines repair centre.
Ya'll be without your laptop for a few weeks.
They diagnose it as customer damage.
And you'll be left arguing with some poor fecker in PC world who doesn't care how important you computer is to you.

Sorry for the negativity but these are the stories I've heard.

Maybe Maglite is correct, be prepared for a fight.

Manufacturer\ shop can also say customer forced USB device into USB port. Customer Damage.

I'm going to add a caviet as i appear to be coming across strongly. BE POLITE but firm. Seek a replacement or refund or repair depending on how happy you are with each.

They can always say you damaged it. I can see a sales staff going along the lines of you damaged it tough luck, so you escalate to a manager. When or if she repeats the tough luck speech you thank her for her assistance hand her the letter and inform her that there will be a registered copy delivered in the morning. In your letter state where you will be going with this(small claims) copy to their head office and give them 14 days to get back to you. Turn around and walk away.

At that point you move form a pesky customer to a well prepared person stacking the pins and getting ready to move on.
One of 3 things will happen, the manger will bow down, PC World corporate will fix the problem, you move on to court having prepared things well.

OF course you may be lucky they will realize this is a batch fault appologise and replace it for you. with absolutely no hassle at all. It is however best to be prepared.

brought laptop back in tonight to pc world and was told i damaged it and because usb ports are on the motherboard that the cost to repair it would be nearly the price of the laptop...the usual bull like you should have taken out insurance blah blah blah...as far as im concerned the usb port was faulty end of story..

dont know what to do next as im here with a 2 month old laptop with no working usb ports and pc world have in a nutshell told me to go away and stop annoying them.

Had a feeling that would be the outcome.

Maglites approach might be the next best thing for you to try.
