The signal for all analogue channels just stopped for me there, did it happen to anyone else? I am in Kerry, so it would be the Mullaghanish mast that's not working...

They didn't seem to mention this in the news that their were problems with masts over the Christmas. They are quick to mention Electrical faults.

I suppose seeing as it didn't seem to be nationwide, along with the fact that losing TV signal isn't half as bad as losing electricity and all that. Still should have said something though, it was the day before New Year's Eve like..

Electricty is an essential service. TV isn't.

Anyway there's another side to it:

It's a bit like C103 saying our West Cork transmitter is off-air at the moment. People in West Cork already know and can't hear the announcement anyway! People in East Cork hear a message that has no relevance to them and it only makes the station seem unprofessional for having a transmission breakdown.

I always think it is a bit strange to announce that the electricity is out in certain areas when those in that area already know and aren't watching the TV to find out.

RTE usually let people know during ad breaks that that transmitters will be down for a few hours due to essential maintenance. And it would also give an idea as to how bad the weather was on the infrastructure of the country. I assume it was the weather that caused the outage?

No doubt about it. It was a storm that night.

West Cork - all 4 out yesterday evening (about 10ish), and same again just now!

Anyone heard any explanations from anyone? Guessing power cuts at transmission masts but would be nice to know. Got TV licence reminder last week as well!

Update - channels just came back! Still a mystery.

No mystery about tonight. It was scheduled maintainance. They announced it after the news.

Yeah they had it announced a lot of RTÉ and last few days, but Thursday nights one was unexpected, hopefully that'll be the end of it now, seeing they scheduled an outage they probably fixed it once and for all.

Last nights outage at Mullaghanish was planned (as explained previously). It was to investigate/fix problems with the generator changeover panel.
