I had heard this fight was been shown on sky sports but don't see it in the listings, does anyone know anywhere to watch it?

Sorry I don't. But I do looking forward to Sugar Shane 'knocking the grease of a Berto'.

I think the younger and fresher Berto will cause Mosley problems, Mosley has been quite inactive too. I see an upset clear win for Berto.

I think it's better for boxing that the old men aren't seen as the best.

Of course we would all prefer to see the younger guys take the baton and run with it, but IMO Berto is an impostor a fake and I truly hope Mosley stops him in his tracks.

Well, if he is an impostor and a fake, then even at this stage of Shane's career, he should take Berto.

But, if Berto wins, like I predict, will he still be an impostor and a fake, with many claiming that Shane was too old anyway?

If Shane was the same age at Berto this fight wouldn't see the 5th round. Anything can happen on the night and Mosley will get old sooner rather than later.

Now, even in the twilight of his career I still believe he has the tools to beat this guy. For me Berto is just not that good and wouldn't compare well against other elite welterweights.

If the same Mosley that beats Margarito turns up then I don't give Berto a chance. Its just a question of whether old age has caught up with Mosley

Exactly, if Mosley has 80% of the Margarito fight left in him, Berto is in for a beat down.

Fellas, boxing doesn't work like that. Margarito to me was never great, a ****ing punch bag and a punch bag I had Mosley beating all the time. All that bothered me was Mosley's stamina, which held up for the 8 rds.

Margarito is a plodder, a tough one, but very hittable and very predictable.
Styles make fights guys, and Berto doesn't fight at all similar to Margarito.

Berto has very decent speed, combinations, stamina and an all around better game
    than Margarito.

**** me, Mosley couldn't miss Antonio, like others couldn't

Now, gimme' Shane from 1999-2001 and I think Berto is in some trouble

You miss the point. It doesn't matter what style of fighter Berto is. Once Mosley has enough juice in the tank, Andre is a gonner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,372 ✭✭✭✭walshb

I am not missing the point. It was implied by a poster that if the Mosley who beat
Margarito shows up, then he wins. This is not a given. What looks good against one man may not look good against another. This is the point. Styles make fights.

Mosley at peak beats Berto at peak, style or not, I see Shane being too good

Lets not make a mistake in thinking that the 2010 version of Mosley
is close to the 2000 version. He is not. His looking sensational last
January was inflated a little because he was facing a punch bag.

Cotto beat Mosley in a close fight, Margarito beat Cotto, and Shane hammers Margarito.
    It's a funny game!

Im sure by saying 'if the same Shane turns up' Colly meant the exact same thing as me. As long as Shane hasnt aged and has that amount left in the tank, its a done deal. Styles or Margarito doesnt come into it.

    Styles doesn't come into it?

That's some statement and flies in the face of boxing logic and history. I won't go thru examples.

Everyone thought Mosley would beat Forrest. He didn't, and didn't come close either.
He was the clear betting favourite in that bout.

But, remember, I did specifically say that a peak Mosley beats Berto.
This version is not close to peak.

No, not when it comes to Andre Berto and Shane Mosley. An able Mosley DESTROYS Berto regardless of his style.

Yes, I agree, but is the 2010 version able enough, that's the query?

    You wanna' place a bet?

This is 2010, well almost and I did say an ABLE Mosley, but I'll take the bet. Loser leaves town ?:D

Those stakes are far too high. I am a mod after all; and this place may descend
into chaos should I retire, although, maybe you could take over? You have shown an
    interest in the position, no?

I tell you what, should Mosley win, I'll send you a signed copy of Ring Magazine, or a boxing magazine of your choice for that particular month (edition). For me, the same!

Well you did offer me the job before but once again I'll turn it down. These guys couldnt handle liberation.

Unfortunately I couldn't put up anything to match the signed copy of ring, Im sure I could swing a Bernard Dunne photo ??

    It's a deal.

Eh, you sign it; that's what I meant.

Deal it is. I shall look more forward to this bout now.

He was close to beating Forrest in the 2nd fight for sure.
Vernon was just far too big , like Winky was .

Shane had aspirations too far ....

He was owned in bout 1, and always a step behind in bout two.

Forrest was too big, as you noted!

Exactly, I know Margarito is a punch bag but Mosley was still too fast and too skillful in that fight for Berto if they had have fought that night. I think you might be forgetting that noone gave Mosley a chance that night either. Him winning was a shock never mind how well he won. There was something like 20 boxing writers that predicted it and I think only one said Mosley. It had even been said that the only way Mosley beats Margarito is if Margarito breaks his leg on the way to the ring.

Very hard to predict whether a 2010 Mosley is like the 2009 Mosley

Yes , Marg was being viewed as a machine who could give and take any amount of relentless assaults . He was THE big thing in boxing .
How quickly reputations deminish in this sport !!!

I as a massive Mosley fan ,I backed Shane to win that one by KO - 16/1 !!!

Although i really didnt think he could win any other way than on points.

Berto is a quantity unknown in my opinion . He looks great coming up thru his career and stumbled over the line against Collazo .
Have we seen Berto's limits here ??????

He;s also quite short , and will have it tough against tall rangy fighters.
Mosley on the other hand has changed his style from being that rangy fighter , and likes to fight on the inside and dogfight .

Im looking forward to this , Shane wins on points .

Colly, I did pick Mosley to school Margarito. I was never impressed with Antonio's skills, speed, movement and defense and knew that Shane's toughness and chin woul dbe the key, apart from the obvious speed and skill
advantages Shane had. Also, Shane had pop in his punches, more than
Cotto, and it was the pop in those shots that really dissuaded Margarito.
He got Margarito's respect, whereas Margarito walked thru Cotto

BTW, My query was in nrelation to the 2010 Shane being cose to the early noughties version, not the 2009 version. Mosley was made look better in 2009
because Margarito was a bit of a punch bag. Deceiving. Shane in 200 was considerably superior to the 2009 version
